Meet recent CCDI ‘20 grad and new hire, Joseph and CCDI grad ‘19, Terry who are working hard each day at DJM Ecological Services, Inc.
The team awarded Joseph a Visa gift card to help him purchase work clothes, tools and boots for his first day on the job. We had the opportunity to check in last week to see how life post-high school is going and he couldn’t be more thrilled to be working full-time and helping out his family. Joseph said: “Everyone at DJM has been so friendly and helpful to me since I started working. I’ve learned more in the past month than I ever imagined. I’m very happy with my decision to go into the trades after graduating. Thanks Mr. Hanneken and CCDI for helping me get started!”
We also received an excellent update and report about Terry who graduated from the CCDI program in 2019. Terry began his career working for Byrne & Jones and later transitioned into a position at DJM. Erin Mutert of DJM stated: “Terry takes every opportunity to participate in projects at DJM.. he works weekends and travels out of town. He will stay late or come early if something is needed. Since he is so flexible, it has allowed him to see all type of work and learn a lot.”
CCDI would like to thank everyone at DJM for supporting and hiring our graduates!
Rashad Johnson, 2020 Build Our Future Scholarship recipient, was selected to participate in Clayco’s highly competitive college internship program this summer. He is currently interning and being mentored by Matthew Drobak, EIT on the Edge West project.
Rashad is well on his way to becoming a civil engineer and will be taking classes at Washington University in St. Louis as part of the Wash U/UMSL Joint Engineering program this fall.
“Being a part of the CCDI program this past year has been a complete blessing.” Rashad said, “I have not only been shown the vast opportunities and pathways in the construction industry, but I have been warmly welcomed, loved and treated with respect by everyone in the program. CCDI helped me to get an internship at Clayco two summers in a row. This opportunity has allowed me to gain real-world, hands on experience in my future career as a civil engineer. I’m proud to be a part of a program and intern with a company that is advocating for change in the construction industry while helping our community grow and prosper.”
Keep working hard towards achieving your goals, Rashad! We’ll be here to the finish line!
Domnick, incoming senior from Ritenour HS, has been a part of the CCDI program for the past two years. This fine young man was recently hired by Concrete Strategies LLC. as a 2020 CCDI Summer Intern!
Scott Rahn, Vice President of Operations at Clayco, is Domnick’s mentor. Scott stopped by for a visit to set him up with new PPE, work clothes and essentials. Domnick has spent time job shadowing with Scott both in the office and on the field learning about the different pathways in the construction industry. Domnick is interested in pursuing a degree in Construction Management post-high school.
CCDI’s Build Our Future 2020 Scholarship recipient, Catalina who recently graduated from Ritenour HS, had the opportunity to job shadow her new CCDI mentor Nora S. on the job yesterday! Catalina will be joining Nora to study engineering this fall at Mizzou. In addition to her scholarship award, CCDI is helping to expose Catalina to the different pathways in engineering. She will continue to job shadow over the summer, spending time both in the office and in the field. CCDI is thrilled to have Catalina in the program and we cannot wait to see what her future holds! #WomenInSTEM #FutureEngineer #womeninengineering #buildthefoundationforchange
Shout out to CCDI’s Demond Wright on his first day on the job working for Concrete Strategies LLC. as a concrete finisher! Demond is a recent graduate of North County Tech and has been a part of the CCDI program for two years. We are so proud of you Demond and we wish you the best as you begin this new chapter of your life! A big thank you also goes out to Concrete Strategies and Jeff Clark for making this opportunity possible!
Good News with our CCDI Alum Update! TiMyra Granger, 2019 CCDI grad, checked in this week and gave us an update on where she is working and how much she is enjoying her career as a concrete finisher for Tarlton Corporation! She sent us some videos and photos of her and her team restoring walls at the old Post-Dispatch building.
TiMyra said she has learned more than she ever thought she would in the first year of her apprenticeship: “Although the work can be challenging, I’m lucky to be on a crew that works together and helps me to get better at my job everyday. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the CCDI program and for all the people at Tarlton who have stuck by my side and never gave up on me.”
Big shout out to Tarlton Corporation for helping CCDI to #BuildTheFoundationForChange. Keep up the great work TiMyra!
