CCDI’s October Construction Academy was hosted at North Technical High School. The session’s topic was “Trades Day” and led by Mr. Hanneken and 9 of our CCDI/North Tech Alums. We had 31 new students from local high schools participate in hands-on stations to learn introductory skills related to floor laying, painting, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC. A big thank you goes out to Flooring Systems for donating materials for our floor laying station. We also want to recognize Mr. Hanneken for organizing the days activities and his continued support of the CCDI program. Thank you for making this academy a huge success!
CCDI was so excited to welcome a new class of students to 2019-2020 Construction Academy! We spent this first class getting introduced to one another and giving the students an overview of some of the many things they will be learning this year!
CCDI hosted our 4th Annual Golf Tournament and fundraiser at Glen Echo Country Club. Special thank you to the many sponsors who made this event possible! The tournament was followed by the cocktail hour and presentation. Attendees heard from Tom Sieckhaus, CCDI Executive Committee, Dr. Art McCoy, Superintendent of Jennings Schools, Trevor Becherer and DaKolby Crittenden-Brown, CCDI Mentor and Mentee, Dr. dave Baker and Pat Hanneken, Assistant Superintendent of the Special School District and North Tech COI Instructor. They each shared the stories of CCDI’s successes this year and of their own personal experiences working with the students in the program. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored, volunteered and attended for showing CCDI your support. Thanks to your help our program is taking great strides toward building the foundation for change.
CCDI’s alumni group gathered together for a bowling night! It was a great night of fun and pizza! Everyone is looking forward to the group’s our next alumni meeting.
Trenton Kwasa and Kyah Donald, 2018 Build Our Future Scholarship recipients who are working hard on their journey to become civil engineers, recently completed a 6-week summer internship with KAI, ABNA, and Clayco. They were joined by Rashad Johnson, 2018 graduate of CBC, in the last two weeks of their internship. CCDI would like to thank all the companies who assisted in this valuable learning experience. We know the future is bright for each of these phenomenal students!
