Guest speakers Ron Bond from Wil-Bond Construction, Dave McNamee from PM Leach, and Dave Nolan and Daryl Muhammad from SCI Engineering joined CCDI for a visit to North Tech High School. The guest speakers talked with the Senior Construction Innovation Program at North Tech in preparation for the upcoming job fair. CCDI appreciates the time, support and continued commitment our volunteers have given to our program.
CCDI student Brandon is working to complete his Eagle Scout project at Paynecrest Electric. In their workshop, he is building a convertible bench that transforms into a picnic table. He is planning on donating his project to Buder Elementary School. Brandon attended Buder Elementary School and sayd he would love to give the children there a place to sit and relax.
At the latest CCDI Construction Academy class, students focused on the Clayco trait of “Courage” and how it translates into the daily tasks that happen in construction. Lennel Hunter and Dominic Norton of Clayco took the students through Virtual Design Construction and how VDC helps the construction process.
Students then broke up into teams to practice some design and construction with a marshmallows and toothpick exercise that challenged them see which team could build the highest standing structure.
The class finished with the students polishing up their leadership skills by identifying and defining core values, and creating elevator pitches. Students got to practice their public speaking skills by sharing their elevator pitches in front of their peers.
